Welcome to the Blackwater Yacht Racing Association website! Based at the Pelican Point Yacht Club on beautiful Smith Mountain Lake in Southern Virginia, the Blackwater Yacht Racing Association (BYRA) is a non-profit organization made up of members who enjoy sailing and sailboat racing.
Activities include regular spring and fall keelboat races, summer Sunfish races, and sponsored invitational regattas. Social functions are also scheduled throughout the year.
Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to attend the 11 am pre-race skippers meeting at Pelican Point Yacht Club to get acquainted.
If you have a sailboat and would like to participate in the BYRA races, contact Loretta Manning, Recording Secretary to join the Association.
To learn more about sailboat racing or if you are interested in serving as a crew member on a racing sailboat, come on out. We welcome all participants and at each race there are usually boats looking for crewmembers.
